What’s New in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central: Driving Efficiency, Insight and Innovation

Microsoft continues to evolve Dynamics 365 Business Central with a clear focus on helping organisations work smarter, faster, and more intelligently. The latest release wave introduces a range of enhancements designed to streamline operations, strengthen financial control, and unlock new levels of automation.

From AI-driven agents to improved financial processes and deeper operational insights, these updates reflect a continued shift towards more connected and intelligent business systems.

Smarter Working with AI-Powered Agents

A key highlight of this release is the introduction of new AI capabilities through Copilot, including the ability to design and deploy your own agents.

The Copilot Agent Designer allows organisations to build intelligent agent-driven processes tailored to their specific operational needs. These agents operate within defined parameters, understanding your data and operational needs, and can adapt to variable parameters, all whilst ensuring control and increasing efficiency.

Alongside this, the new Expense Management Agent simplifies how employee expenses are processed and reimbursed, reducing manual handling and improving consistency.

These developments mark a significant step forward in how businesses can embed AI directly into everyday workflows, reducing administrative burden and enabling teams to focus on higher value activity.

Expanding AI Integration Across Your Systems

Business Central is also becoming more open and connected through the introduction of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server.

This enables AI agents to integrate not only within Business Central, but across a wider ecosystem including Copilot Studio and third-party platforms. Secure access through Microsoft Entra ID ensures that data remains protected while allowing automation to extend across broader datasets and processes.

The result is a more flexible and scalable approach to automation, where systems can work together seamlessly to support business operations.

Enhancing Operational Control with Quality Management

New quality control capabilities provide greater oversight across operational processes. Organisations can now apply quality checks at multiple stages, including goods receipt, production output, and movement through work or machine centres.

These checks can be configured using user defined parameters and tolerances, ensuring consistency and compliance across operations.

This added layer of control helps reduce errors, improve product quality, and support more efficient production and supply chain processes.

Deeper Insight into Inventory and Performance

The latest updates also introduce enhanced AI-powered insights into inventory and margin performance.

With Copilot-generated summaries and analysis, businesses can quickly understand key metrics such as growth, margins, return rates, and net sales.

This allows for faster, more informed decision making, helping organisations respond proactively to changes in demand, performance, and profitability.

A More Intuitive User Experience

Business Central boasts an exceptional user interface. Enhancements to the ‘Tell Me' Search functionality enable users to navigate the system with ease, with context-specific descriptions and faster access to key areas.

Business Central’s intuitive experience supports strong adoption across teams and ensures users can get the most value from the platform in their day-to-day roles.

Strengthening Financial Accuracy and Efficiency

Financial management has also been enhanced with updates which further streamline processes.

The G/L Currency Revaluation routine allows organisations to update foreign currency balances in line with current exchange rates, automatically reflecting unrealised gains or losses to produce more accurate financial statements.

In addition, new self-billing functionality enables businesses to generate invoices on behalf of suppliers, helping to reduce delays, minimise discrepancies, and improve accounts payable efficiency.

These updates help finance teams maintain control while reducing the time spent on manual adjustments and reconciliation.

Supporting Compliance and Industry Requirements

The introduction of automated handling for sugar and plastic taxes ensures organisations can more easily manage specific regulatory requirements.

By capturing these excise taxes across sales and production processes, businesses can improve compliance while reducing the risk of manual errors.
